MEET JEAN

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND DEDICATION TO  SAN RAMON

My family and I moved to San Ramon in 1994, attracted by the wonderful neighbors and excellent schools—values that families still seek in our city today. We embraced all the benefits of living here, including outstanding leadership, quality community services, and exceptional recreational opportunities. I enjoy using the pools, parks, and trails for fitness, relaxation, and camaraderie with friends and family.

In 2018, I was thrilled to be appointed to the Parks and Community Services Commission. This role quickly taught me how a citizen can influence key decisions for our city. We worked on the Parks Master Plan, the CityWalk Master Plan, and the preservation of open spaces. In 2019, I was appointed to the Planning Commission, where I currently serve as Chair during my second term. I am a strong advocate for developing family-friendly housing in San Ramon, often ensuring that features such as "tot lots," wider sidewalks, and safety fencing are included in housing projects. I also support protecting historical buildings, promoting walkability in the city core, and enhancing vibrant retail and entertainment options whenever possible.

City leadership was a natural progression from my 30-year career as a science educator. I taught various science classes and earned a BS in Zoology and a Life Science Secondary School Credential from UC Davis. In 2007, I transitioned into school administration, focusing on student leadership and co-curricular programs. I bring a unique combination of understanding the science of the wastewater industry and the leadership experience to facilitate excellence among colleagues.

After retiring, I participated in San Ramon's Government 101 course, the San Ramon Valley Leadership class of 2020, and Central San’s Water Academy.

In the larger Tri-Valley area, my husband and I have been active leaders in the Boy Scouts of America program. I am the founding Scoutmaster of an all-female BSA troop and received Scouting’s highest volunteer honor, the Silver Beaver, in 2014. For the past 17 years, I have staffed the National Youth Leadership Training course sponsored by the Golden Gate Area Council.

It is an honor to serve the citizens of San Ramon and the Tri-Valley in these roles. I look forward to bringing the same experience, education and dedication to the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District as your Division 5 board member.
